Hazleton Plain Speaker; Thursday, June 18, 1891:
Willie, the 10-year-old son of John W. Crellin, a well known contractor of Hazleton, Pa., whose family is boarding at Asbury Park, says yesterday's Philadelphia Press, narrowly escaped drowning Tuesday morning. He was in bathing at the foot of Fourth Avenue, when the undertow carried him beyond his depth. He was unable to swim, and and called loudly for help. His screams were heard by a number of workman who were engaged in repairing founder Bradley's board walk. Four of them went to his rescue, and after much difficulty brought him safely ashore. He was unconscious at the time. He was taken home, medical aid summoned, and is now out of danger.

William Crellin, aged 57, died at his home in Morea, at noon Sunday, following an illness of several months. Mr. Crellin was the son of the late John W. and Mary Richards Crellin, born in Bethlehem, Pa. At an early age, his family moved to Hazleton, where Mr. Crellin attended the city schools. He graduated from Wyoming Seminary, and after a course of study at Bethlehem Preparatory School, studied chemical engineering at Lehigh University. He was a member of the Theta Delta Chi Fraternity and the B.P.O.E. in Mahanoy City. For the past twenty years he has resided in Morea, in the employ of the Madeira Hill Company.

He is survived by his wife; his sons, Dr. William Crellin, of Shahola, Pa.; John, of Feura Bush, N.Y.; Thomas and James, at home. Also a brother, John Crellin, of Chatham, N.Y., and a sister, Mrs. Manfred Kudlich, of this city.

The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at ten o'clock from his residence, with interment in Mountain View cemetery.
