Marriage Note: Eunice probably married John in St. Louis, Missouri after she filed for legal separation from Walter, who had left the family in New York, while trying to join the Latter Day Saints.

Daughter Zurviah dictated her autobiography and stated:
"""My mother and I and the younger children journeyed as far as St Louis with the hope of continuing on to Utah. In the meantime my mother had obtained a legal separation from my father and after arriving in St Louis married Brother John Haynes, who we always spoke of as Grandfather Haynes. We arrived in St Louis May 1st 1850.""
