Clyde “Smitty” Evans Smith, Jr., age 87, passed away on August 17, 2016, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Abbeville SC, he was the son of the late Clyde E. Smith, Sr. and the late Alice Beasley Smith. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired as the owner of Smitty’s Restaurant after 35 years. He was a long-time member of Forest Hill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Usher. Clyde was a member of the Shriners. He is survived by his sons, Gerald Eugene Smith and his wife Janet, of Nashville TN, and Kenneth E. Smith and his wife Sandra, of Concord NC; a daughter, Joyce Elaine Smith Rains, of Anderson, SC; a brother, James “Donnie” Smith; three sisters, Margaret “Mot” Page, Doris “Dot” Werner, and Belva Hamer; and three grandchildren, Paul Smith and his wife Sommer, Christopher Conklin, and Kristen Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Matheson Smith who passed away in 2002; two sisters, Thelma Delaigle and Hazel Ashley; and a brother, Billy Ralph Smith. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson SC.
