She was born on April 8, 1937 in Crisfield, Maryland to Mark and Madge Harrison.
She spent the last 41 years in Cave Springs, Arkansas, after her husband retired from a 21 year career in the U.S. Coast Guard, during which time they were stationed in various locations such as Crisfield, Maryland, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Betty enjoyed spending long hours on her back porch with family and her two dogs. She loved playing cards with friends, and was avid at tending to her flowers, sewing and embroidering. She also enjoyed volunteering in her free time. Like many locally, Betty was Wal-Mart true and proud; 23 years of service that she gladly preached. Betty never met a stranger, and there was never a dull moment when she was around. She was a tenacious, strong, loving, honest and extremely optimistic woman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles James "Jim" Eward; and brothers, James, Alan, Bill, and Ben; and a sister, Beatrice.
Betty was the proud mother of four daughters, Betty Jean (and husband, Dale) Curren, Bonnie (and husband, Mike) Dietzen, Benita (and husband, Jack) Leach, and Pam (and husband, Doug) Shook, all residing in the immediate area. She is also survived by a sister, Mae "Mazie".
Betty was a proud Grandmother of nine grandchildren, Cameron and Drew Curren, Jacob Leach (and his wife, Tera), Jessica Teague, Blake Dietzen (who has preceded her in death), Marcus and Mitch Dietzen, Kristen Saullo (and her husband, Michael), and Ashley Shook. She also had six great grandchildren, Hunter, Hailey, and Sidney Leach, Ally and Kait Teague, and Lilly Lunsford; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
Funeral services will begin at noon.
Burial will follow in Cave Springs Cemetery.
