She was born November 12, 1926, in Sandyville, W.Va. a daughter of the late Fredrick and Beulah Delcie (Mayhall) Carmichael formerly of Silverton, W.Va.
She grew up in Silverton and upon graduation from Ravenswood High School moved to Washington D.C. While in Washington she met and married her late husband, William Hilary Hutchens Jr. in 1946. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Cleon Shockey; brothers, Robert and William Carmichael; sister, Betty Gorrell; great -grandchildren, Nora Follrod and Elijah Eskandari.
Frankie is most remembered by her family and loved ones as an honest and hard-working person who held onto life with great will and principle. She was always a rock for her entire family, a person of good humor, a person who believed in Jesus and a person who cared about the lives of others.
Survivors include her sons, William Hilary Hutchens, III. of Glendora, Calif. and Daniel F. Hutchens of Athens, Ga.; daughters, Lynda I. Hutchens of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Sandra Ann Hutchens of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sister, Elizabeth Curry of Ripley, W.Va.; stepchildren, Theresa (Shockey) Cooper of Charleston, W.Va. and James Shockey of Sissonville, W.Va.; grandmother and great-grandmother of 29 beloved souls.
The family extends a special thank you to Hilary (Hutchens) Groves for the amazing love and dedication she always extended to her Grandma. Hilary was instrumental in ensuring that she was well cared for over the years.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 205 Court St. Ripley, WV 25271, with the Rev. Charles Hicks officiating.
Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery, Sandyville, W.Va. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Casto Funeral Home, 157 Evans Road, Evans, WV 25241.
