JAMES C. BARRY. Death of One of Rochester's Best Known Business Men Announcements,
James C. Barry died Thursday night at the Homeopathic Hospital. Death was due to appendicitis and was not unexpected. The deceased was born in county Cork, Ireland, and came to this country when ten years of age. After engaging in business for several years in New York City, Mr. Barry came to Rochester where he had resided for the past sixteen years. For many years he conducted a marble find monument business in this city and was one of the best-known businessmen in Rochester. Mr. Barry was a prominent member of Knights of Columbus, of the C. M. B. A., the Union Club and of St. Mary's Church. He married Miss Mary A. Quinn, of Philadelphia, sixteen years ago and she and three sons, Edmund H., James J., and Philip, and one daughter, Miss Agnes M. Barry, are still living.

James Barry's youngest son was noted New York playwright Philip Barry.
Philips's play, The Youngest, is an autobiographical account of his family history following James' death. In 1910, at the age of fourteen, Philip discovered that a New York State interpretation of his father's will entitled him to a share of his father's estate that would eventually leave him the entire business. Family conflicts ensued; he later claimed he had never intended to keep the money, and he eventually signed over the estate to his mother and brothers.
Philip also wrote, "The Philadelphia Story" a play that Howard Hughes bought and gifted to Katherine Hepburn, in order to control it as a vehicle for her screen comeback. (Wiki)
