Johnnie Ruth (Kindred) Rockow of Checotah, OK was born at home January 25, 1938, at Prairie View, SE of Checotah, and passed peacefully from this life at home on August 11, 2016 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Johnnie Ruth was preceded in death by her parents John Baptist and Golda Sybill Kindred of Checotah; her brothers Bearl Kindred and Cotton Kindred; her sisters Oma Smith and Duyene Hogan, and her first husband Bill Ray Sisemore. Johnnie Ruth is survived by her husband of 36 years, Brian Rockow of the home; her sons John Sisemore and his wife Teressa of San Antonio, TX; Billy Sisemore and his wife Julie of Jones, OK, and Stephen Sisemore of Tulsa, OK; her grandchildren Kyle Sisemore of Mustang, OK; Leia Wheeler and her husband Adam of OKC, OK; John David Sisemore and Liz Hibbs of San Marcos, TX; Tonya Fowler and her husband Kevin of San Antonio, TX, and Misty Raprich and her husband Adam of OKC, OK; her six great-grandchildren Charli, Emily, Madison, Lilly, AJ, and Olivia; her sisters Rachel Sweet of Midwest City, OK; Bobbie Stone of Moore, OK; and Jimmye Coachman of OKC, OK; her brother, David Owen Kindred and his wife Nina of Tyler, TX; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews, and a lifetime of friends.
Johnnie Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and sister. She loved and enjoyed her family and friends. Her fondest memories were of times spent with family and friends. Born the 6th of nine children she grew up at Prairie View, attending grade school through the eighth grade at Prairie View School. She graduated from Checotah High School in 1955; was a Cheerleader – Go wildcats! and sang in the High School Choir. She attended the College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR for one year where she majored in Music. She left Checotah to travel with her husband Bill Sisemore to Germany with the Army, and then to California before returning to Oklahoma. She worked at Western Electric in California and in Oklahoma City, and at SouthWestern Bell Telephone in Oklahoma City as a Telephone Operator and Computer Operator. She married Brian Rockow August 25, 1979 at Dickson Baptist Church in Spencer, OK. She retired from SouthWestern Bell Telephone in 1988 with 26 years service. She and Brian lived in Midwest City, Ok and Choctaw, OK before they moved to Checotah in 2006 and built their home on land that was part of the original Indian Allotment land of her grandmother. Moving back to Checotah and building a home on family land was her dream and she so enjoyed their home and being back home in Checotah. She called their home place “Almost Heaven”. During her life she enjoyed quilting and cross-stitch and traveling. She was an avid OU fan and enjoyed watching OU Football – Go Sooners! A member of the First Baptist Church of Checotah, she enjoyed Sunday School, working at the Welcome Center, and Singing in the Adult Choir. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Methodist Mission; those were times she really enjoyed. Johnnie Ruth came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at Prairie View when she was about 10 years old. The Prairie View School was also used on Sundays for Sunday School and Church services. She was saved at a Sunday night Revival Service; Will Whisenhunt was the preacher. Her Christian Faith was an example to all and sustained her through life’s journey.
