Funeral services for Mr. John Travis Ables were held on Thursday,4 Aug. 2016 at 10 a.m. at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church in Jonesboro, LA.

Officiating was Brother Randy Dark and Reverend Olan McLaren. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Visitation was held on 3 Aug 2016 from 5-9 p.m. at McDonald Memorial Baptist Church and services were held the next day, 4 Aug 2016, at the church.

Mr. Ables, a veteran was born 30 July 1938 and passed away on 1 Aug 2016 at Willis Knighton North Hospital in Shreveport, LA. He was 78.

Survivors include wife, Laura Carney Ables of Jonesboro, LA; three daughters, Sharron Schimmel and husband Mike of Ruston, LA, Tina Kelley and husband Rusty of Jonesboro, Shanda Campbell and husband Jason of Bossier City, LA and a foreign exchange daughter, Ragnhild Landheim of Norway; one son, Travis Ables and wife Sherry of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren, Nicole Garrett and husband Railey, Brittany Nappers and husband Travis, John Ables and wife Tiffany, Cody Greer, Kacy Greer, Maddie Campbell, Cade Campbell and Aly Campbell; seven great-grandchildren, Emory Napper, Brody Garrett, Khole Greer, Stover Napper, Jackson Ables, Carter Greer, and Landry Garrett, one brother; J. D. Ables and wife Carol of Jonesboro.

Mr Ables is preceded in death, by his parents Clois and Lillian Ables, seven brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers were John Ables, Railey Garrett, Cody Greer, Cade Campbell, Travis Napper, Mike Schimmel, Soupy Campbell, Doug Shirling, Rusty Kelley, Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Teat, Rudy Bangham, Buddy Taylor, Gary Black, Jimmy Robinson, Roy Barlow, David Hammons, and Leroy Ashsley. All honorary pallbearers are members of the Homer's Lake Hunting Club.
