Florence Nora Payton was born June 29, 1898, in Evansville, IN. She was the second child born to Franklin June Payton (b. Jun 14, 1868) and Susan Isabel Edeline (b. Dec 12, 1874). She was the second of seven children and lived her childhood in Vincennes, Indiana.

The Payton's came up from Lexington, KY to Ohio and eventuality to Milan, IN and Evansville, IN, then Frank and his family settled in Vincennes, IN. The Payton men all worked for the railroad from being a laborer to becoming an engineer. There is record of Beuford Payton, our 2nd Great Grandfather having his legs crushed from his own engine at the National Stock Yards in East St. Louis, IL and dying from his injures.

John C. Payton enlisted into the Civil War with the Ripley Rangers Co. A 37th Indiana Volunteer Infantry, October 15, 1861 as a Private. He mustered out July 25, 1865 in Louisville, KY.

Our Mother always told us that the Edeline family [her mother's family] had settled in the Vincennes area around the same time as when George Rogers Clark captured Fort Sackville from the British. But, they were already there as history can prove. Louis Victor Edeline, my 4th Great Grandfather, was born December 23, 1730 in Chambly, Quebec, Canada. By 1750 documents show father and son living on the Windsor side (Fort Detroit) Ca. 1750. By 1761 they were living in Post Vincennes, French Territory. The Edeline family helped George Rogers Clark and his men keep control of the Fort. I had also read somewhere that the women of the Edeline family helped to load the guns to help George Rogers Clark and his men maintain control of the fort, but can't find where it was at now.

Louis Victor Edeline died April 28, 1799 and is buried in the Old French/Old Catholic/St-Xavier Cemetery, Vincennes, IN

Our Daddy, Burgess Snow was working on the farm for Doc. Oliphant in Vincennes. A sist came up on his leg and he had to go into the hospital to have it operated on. The nurse during this surgery was Florence Payton. She was working there as a student nurse. He evidently fell in love because when she went to Indianapolis, for the school year of 1920-1921, to get the final training that she needed to become a Registered Nurse, he followed her there. He got a job working as an orderly in the same hospital. They were married March 25, 1921. Mother graduated but never practiced her nurses training except on us kids.

She had also worked at Citizens First National Bank. Most of all she was the greatest Mother, Grandmother & Homemaker!

In death, she leaves her husband, Burgess Snow, custodian at Citizens First National Bank; two sons, Roger of R. 9, and John F. of R. 6; four daughters, Mrs. Loren (Doris) Inman of R. 9, Mrs. Joe (Joan) Stannard of R. 9, Mrs. George (Rebecca) Voorhies of Gary and Mrs. Donald (Wilma) Salee of R. 6; 12 grandchildren; one brother, John Payton of San Francisco, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Weidner of California and Mrs. Marjorie Bartholomew of Charleston.

She was a member of the Greene County Chapel Methodist Church; 13998 E Chapel Rd, Solsberry, IN 47459, United States.
