Paul Young Bonner was born on December 28, 1888 at Bonnerville. He was the third child and second son born to Oliver Young Bonner and Sarah Hope Robinson and was named for the Apostle Paul and his father; he was baptized by Rev. J. M. Little at Harmony Presbyterian Church. His brothers nicknamed him "Legs." Paul attended Burnett's Chapel School. He and Lula May Willard were married on May 12, 1911 by Rev. J. E. Browne at her parents' home. Paul was raised Presbyterian and May was raised Baptist; they continued their respective religions all their lives. He was a Master Mason and often rode horseback to Fairfield to attend meetings; he received his fifty-year pin on March 28, 1968. Paul and May made their home just west of his parents and farmed. Successful at raising vegetables, they always enjoyed a good garden. Pauline remembered helping her father make syrup from the sorghum and ribbon cane he grew. At one point they lived on Reunion Street in Fairfield. During their later years, they lived on the old DCD Highway north of Stewards Mill just yards from the turn off to the Bonner Cemetery. Bobby Ray remembered, "Uncle Paul raised peaches….I can remember when he sold peaches that were pretty as can be for a quarter a bushel. Took great pride in anything he did in relation to raising something for consumption. His peaches were his specialty as I remember." Paul adored her and worked diligently to provide for his family. Paul and May celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the home of their granddaughter, Jeanette Lambert Heath, in Fairfield. Paul died on January 1, 1974 in Fairfield. Both are buried in the Bonner Cemetery which they lovingly cared for during the last fifteen years of their lives. Paul and May were parents of five children: Benjamin Young; Ernest Clyde; Mary Pauline; Carl Yates; Charles Travis.
