Robert Russell "Russ" Shalkoski, 76, of New Kensington died Thursday (Sept. 26, 2002) in Harmar Village Care Center, Harmar. Born Aug. 15, 1926, in New Kensington, he lived there most of his life. A 1945 graduate of New Kensington High School, he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University), Pittsburgh. Mr. Shalkoski was a purchasing agent for Pittsburgh Industrial Furnace, South Side, for 17 years before retiring in 2001. Previously, he was project manager at the former Salem Corp. in Carnegie for 21 years. He was an avid golfer and a member of Vandergrift Golf Club. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Edna Marie Wyant Shalkoski; a daughter, Mrs. Jill Tracy (Mark E.) Nall of Huntsville, Ala.; a brother, Eugene (Leila) Shalkoski of Miami; and a sister, Joy Shalkoski of New Kensington. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Larissa and Alexandra Nall, both of Huntsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Ann Golembiewski Shalkoski. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME LTD., New Kensington, where a service will be at 10 a.m. Monday. Private burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
