Ben was the son of Damara ("Danny") Todd and John Torbett Lockridge.

Benjamin Cates Lockridge served in the Civil War, enlisting on 21 Aug 1862 in Iowa as a private. He also served as a color guard for the protecting of President Lincoln's casket during his burial - it is believed that Damara and Martha Todd-Lincoln are related somehow.

He married Elizabeth Margaret Bagby on 15 Nov 1865 in Elkport, Clayton County, Iowa. Benjamin C. Lockridge and Elizabeth had 7 children from this union of marriage (Davis M.; Orin T.; Sarah N.; Katy M.; Fred S; Edwin S.; and Dola L.).

Benjamin's last name is listed as "Lockridge" on both his marriage record and on his headstone. However, the Washington State Death Certificate Index indicates his last name is spelled "Lochridge"; in addition, all 7 children spell their last name with an "h" rather than a "k".
