Geneva Nell Cooper Stone
Born September 30, 1916 in Tira, Texas to the late Loren and Bessie B Cooper and passed away on March 20, 2006 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. With her dear family and friends she formed a lifetime of beloved memories which began in the countryside around Tira. She is a proud alumna of Cooper High School, Wesley College, and East Texas State Teachers College. Her early devotion to teaching began in the Hopkins County schools of Tira and Sulphur Bluff. To serve her country during WWII, she traveled to California to work for Frank Rieber, Inc. as a select member of a secret signal generator wiring crew which produced communications equipment for the U.S. Navy.

While in California she met Staff Sergent Milton R. Stone, a member of the U.S. Air Corps Training Detachment, Inglewood, Calif. They married on Nov. 2, 1945, and moved to , Calif. They married on Nov. 2, 1945, and moved to the South Texas town of Mathis. A devoted educator, she continued teaching in Mathis and later in Garland where she retired in 1982, after 43 years of service. She is also a lifelong member of numerous teaching organizations.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Bob Cooper.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Tira Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home, Sulphur Springs, Texas. Visitation will be held Friday, March 24, 2006 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
