James Howard Bower, 76, 220 Wilson St., Greensburg, died at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 1991 in the Decatur County Memorial Hospital. A lifetime resident of Greensburg, he had lived in his present home for over 50 years.

He was born April 13, 1914 in Greensburg, the son of Grover and Della Bishop Bower. He retired in 1980 from Arvin Industries in Columbus where he was an electronics technician. he also had a radio and television repair shop in Greensburg for many year. He was an instructor for the U.S. Air Force in World War II. He was a member of the Welsh-Crawley-Kramer Legion Post 129 and the Greensburg Eagles Lodge, and was active in the Decatur County Red Cross.

On Nov. 11, 1933, he married the former Alberta Smith in Greensburg, and she preceded him in death Feb. 21, 1976. He is survived by two sons, Donald R. Bower and Larry J. Bower, both of Greensburg; one daughter, Mrs. Vivian (Joann) Brown, San Diego, Calif.; his fiancee, Lillian Dieselberg, Greensburg; a brother, Benjamin Bower, Chicago; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one great-grandson, Glenn Bailey; two brothers, Arthur and Leslie Bower and one sister, Grace Vargas.

The Rev. John Hadler will officiate the services at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral home, Greensburg.

Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests that memorials go to the Decatur County Red Cross.
