Br Karl was born January 20, 1932 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Karl Eugene Salvo, Sr. and Anna Wieters Salvo. In 1950, he graduated from High School of Charleston and later retired from the Post and Courier as a pressroom manager. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church where he played on the softball team and served on the congregation council, Sunday School Superintendent, and the Men's Chorus. He also was a member of the Charleston Rifle Club and Landmark Lodge # 76.
In addition to his wife, Lillian, he is survived by three daughters: The Reverend Karen S. Hawkins (Robert) of Columbia, SC, Lisa S. DeHaven (Roy) of Charleston, SC, and Karla S. Hartin (Bobby) of Charleston, SC; two grandsons: Karl F. DeHaven (Miranda) and Thomas A. DeHaven; sister, Emily S. Manby of Virginia Beach, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Karl was preceded in death by two sisters: K. Elsa Salvo and Beverly S. Condon. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church "Radio Ministry," 405 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403.
