Glenn D. Malwin, age 86, of Michigan City, passed away on Aug. 10, 2016 at his home.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1930, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Sverre and Mildred (nee Heins) Malwin. Both parents have preceded him in death. Glenn married the love of his life, Vera Schlundt, on Sept. 26, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City. Vera resides in Michigan City.

Also surviving are his children: Brian (Francine) Malwin, Brad (Suzie) Malwin, Dawn Malwin of Michigan City, Indiana and Debra (Eric) Malwin-Hootman of Valparaiso, Indiana; grandchildren: Brian (Rondi) Malwin II, Jeremiah Carpenter, Kirsten (Juan) Malwin, Erika (Joshua) Schwinkendorf, Brigitte Malwin, Amy Malwin, Erin Malwin, Andrew Werner, Lauren Werner; great-grandchildren: Brian III, Railynn, Lucas, Noah, Olivia, Anthony, Makiah, Emma, Reed; brother: Jarl (Beverly) Malwin; step-sisters: Jean Arndt and Elaine Blackburn. several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-mother: Elsie Malwin; sister: Joan Timm.
Glenn attended Elston High School in Michigan City, Indiana. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He formerly owned Glenn’s Barber Shop in town. He was a part of the La Porte County Sheriff’s Department, where he used to ride his horse named Sonny with the Mounted Posse. He was the co-owner of Sunshine Realty. Glenn was a real estate broker and appraiser for Long Beach Real Estate. He was a charter member and one of the founding members of Sons of Norway Lodge No. 5600 in Chesterton, Indiana. He proudly referred to himself as “Ragnar The Viking” and sometimes dressed up as a Viking. Volunteering at Friendship Gardens was one of his passions, especially in the Norwegian Garden. He was a member of the Michigan City Senior Center and enjoyed his vegetable garden at home. Glenn designed and created handmade jewelry and loved to cook big spaghetti dinners for his family. Glenn always had a story, and always had a joke.

Visitation for family and friends will take place on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home, 613 Washington St., Michigan City, IN 46360 and on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral Home with Pastor David Seifert officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: American Diabetes Foundation or American Heart Association.
