Rockford -- Robert E Noeding, 86, died at 4:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, in Rockford Memorial Hospital from complications of Parkinson's disease. Born May 25, 1917 in McGregor, Iowa, the son of Carl and Laura Noeding. Married the former Nora Schoker on July 3, 1953, in Rockford. He was employed for 30 years as an elevator mechanic and retired in 1983. A veteran of World War II and Korean War, he served in the US Army. He was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. His family always came first, and they enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and boating together. His sense of humor will be missed. Survived by his wife, Nora; daughters, Kathleen (Gary) Orvis and Laurie Compher, both of Kenosha, Wis.; brother Chuck (Dorothy) Noeding of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren Robert and George Orvis and Michelle and Nicole Compher; brother-in-law, Ronald Krahenbuhl; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Norm, Alvin (Marie) and Floyd Noeding; sisters, Marjorie Krahenbuhl and Lucetta (Leslie) Davies; and granddaughters, Kristine and Melinda Orvis. Service at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the chapel of Sunset Funeral Home, 8800 N. Alpine Road. The Rev. Dr. William Richard Kerr Sr. of Riverside Community church will officiate. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
