Mary Elvina, daughter of G.W. and Abagail Jarred, both deceased, was born December 1, 1867, in Ringgold County Iowa, where she grew to womanhood and lived, with slight exceptions, until her death.

She was converted and joined the United Evangelical Church at Ringgold during a revival held in the school house by her Pastor, Rev. Frank S. Locke, in 1885. She and five others who were converted at the same time were the beginning of the organization, which is now the Ringgold Church. Sister Mary continued an active and consistent member of her church, faithful until death.

During her last illness, she often talked of her departure and her confidence in her Savior and as the end drew near she calmly gave directions about her affairs and told her loved ones not weep and said she was anxious to go.

She was married to Sherman McAninch October 18, 1888. Five children were born to this union, all of whom died in infancy.

She is survived by husband, three adopted daughters, Mrs. Lester Coon, Mrs. Roy Swigart and Edith; two grandchildren, Elaine Swigart and Gwendolyn Coon; five sisters, Mrs. J. A. Engle of Olathe, Ks.; Mrs. M. V. Hopkins of Mount Ayr; Mrs. Lucretia Barnett of Wellsville, Ks.; Mrs. Ed Kling of Wemore, Ks.; and Mrs. Catherine P. Washurne of Nara Visa, New Mexico; two brothers, Joseph M. Jarred of Mount Ayr and Arthur Jarred of Ringgold, Iowa, almost all of whom were present during her last illness.

She passed from this life to the one above at 5 o’clock in the evening of April 4, 1919, aged 51 years, four months and three days.
