The wife of Dr. Alstead, a prominent physician, was Miss Mary Ellen Holman. Born in Harrisburg in 1838, she resided here her entire life. Her father, the late Samuel Holman, was the architect for the Dauphin County Courthouse in Harrisburg and the Mifflin County Courthouse in Lewistown. Her late mother was, Sarah Hertz, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Kisner Hertz, of Harrisburg. Mrs. Alstead was interested in charitable organizations, once serving as president of the Children's Industrial Home (now the children's Home of Harrisburg), and as a member of the board of managers of the Home for the Friendless, Fifth and Muench streets. Mrs. Alstead's sisters and brothers included: Mrs. Samel Alleman (Anne Elizabeth Holman); the Rev. Samuel Augustus Holman, William Simon Holman and Mrs. George A. Klugh (Sarah Frances Holman). Mrs. Alstead died 13 January 1890.
