Phillip Reeves "Phil" Aaron M.D., 70 of Columbia, KY passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 at 7:36 PM at the Kindred Hospital in Louisville, KY after several months' illness. He was born September 10, 1945 in Louisville, KY the son of the late Dr. Oris and Jessie Reeves Aaron. He was preceded in death by one brother Dr. Steve Aaron, After attending Lindsey Wilson College in 1970, Dr. Aaron went on to earn an AB degree from Centre College, a bachelor of science degree from Campbellsville University; a master of Arts degree in American history from University of Kentucky; a law degree from the University of Louisville School Brandeis School of Law; and a master's degree in public health from Yale University. Dr. Aaron completed residency training at the Trover Clinic-Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville, KY, St. Joseph's Medical Center in Stamford, CT, the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center and the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Aaron was a fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine and a member of the Kentucky Medical Association, Adair County Medical Society and the American College of Preventative Medicine. He served as a director of the Lake Cumberland Health Department and served as director of the Dr. Phil Aaron Medical Center in Columbia, KY for several years. Dr. Aaron was the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Abraham Flexner Ward and the Tim Lee Carter Award from the University Of Louisville School Of Medicine. The National Rural Health Association recognized Dr. Aaron's practice the "Outstanding Rural Medical Practice in America", the Lindsey Wilson College National Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Phil Aaron's early employment included being a staff member for US Congressman Tim Lee Carter, US Senator Marlow Cook and John Sherman Cooper in their Washington offices. He remained active in Kentucky Republican politics and was a longtime friend and supporter of Senator Mitch McConnell. He gave medical presentations in 12 different States and wrote articles that appeared in 27 publications. He also published an article in the Courier -Journal on the American Chestnut tree of which he had a great interest. Dr. Aaron was an active member of the Columbia Baptist Church and was known everywhere as a doctor with great compassion for his patients and never turning a sick person away… even if there was no money for payment. Survivors include his daughter, two sons, two grandchildren, two sister. Survived locally by several cousins and a host of friends Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM CST at the Columbia Baptist Church 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY Public visiting and receiving friends by the family will be from 2:00 PM on Friday until 9:00 PM Friday at the Columbia Baptist Church 201 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY At the request of Dr. Phil Aaron his remains were cremated and scattered according to his wishes.
