October 16, 1931 – July 29, 2016 Services will be held on Saturday in Radford, for Lois Hunsey Rose who passed away peacefully in Santa Cruz, Calif. at the age of 84.Lois was the third of ten children born to Sam and Ruth Hulsey of Dante, Va. She graduated from Dante Central High School in May 1949. Lois later graduated from Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing in Roanoke, Va. in September 1952. A dedicated registered nurse whose career spanned over 30 years, Lois' profession found her serving in medical offices, hospitals, a college infirmary, and finally the State of Virginia Penal System. She continued on as a devoted caregiver to numerous family members throughout her life.A cancer survivor and a Parkinson's patient, she struggled with the role reversal of being the patient instead of the nurse in her last few years, but her love of family and friends never wavered. Lois moved to the Santa Cruz area six years ago to be near her daughter, and she will truly be missed by all of her loved ones whom she cared for so deeply.Lois is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark; her son, Jim; five grandsons; two granddaughters; two great grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces, nephews and loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gene in 1986; her son, Sam in 2005; and her daughter-in-law, Tammy in 2013. Lois was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers.A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday August 13, 2016 at Grace Episcopal Church, 210 4th St. Radford, VA. 24141. She will be laid to rest with her late husband, Everett, in the church's memorial garden. In lieu of flowers, please consider an act of charity made in her memory to the National Parkinson's Foundation or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
