Robert "Bob" A. Bier, 90, of Hillsdale, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society, Geneseo.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery, Hillsdale. Memorials may be made to Hillsdale United Methodist Church.
Mr. Bier was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Hillsdale, the son of Emil and Bertha Ketelhut Bier. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Bob married Ruth Spittler on June 22, 1957. To this union three children were born. Ruth and their daughter, Arline, preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1985. Bob later married Mildred Swain on Oct. 22, 1989.
Bob was a lifelong farmer in the Hillsdale area. He was a member of the Hillsdale United Methodist Church and Moose Lodge 990 in Geneseo. He was passionate about farming and enjoyed dancing and listening to music. He also liked to travel, especially to Branson, Mo.
Surviving are his two sons, Alvin (Tracy) Bier, Hillsdale, Carl (Mary) Bier, Hillsdale; significant other, Grace Holfreiter, Moline; grandchildren, Nick (Kelli) Behnke, Michael (Alisha) Bier, Madison Bier, Steve Darr; and great-granddaughters, Kayla Behnke and Khloe Bier. He was preceded in death by both wives, Ruth and Mildred; daughter, Arline Behnke; sister, Laura Wainwright; and grandson, Bobby Behnke.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Good Samaritan Society in Geneseo and Heartland Hospice for their care.
