Obituary published in Eugene Register Guard Aug 7, 2016:

Midge Marlene Bernard was born October 16, 1949 in San Diego, California to Glen and Enid Bernard. She died July 21, 2016 in Eugene, Oregon after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer just one week earlier.

Midge devoted her life to her family, friends, and her 40-year career as a Registered Nurse. She loved her job and those with whom she worked. She began nursing at South Bay Hospital in Los Angeles. In 1979, she moved to Eugene and began working at Sacred Heart Hospital where she became Peacehealth's most tenured nurse before retiring in 2015.

Midge loved to travel. She traveled throughout the United States, Europe, and New Zealand and Australia. She especially loved visiting her maternal family and friends in Australia and her cousin Glen and his family in Oakridge, Oregon.

At home, Midge often spent time working in her yard. She enjoyed going to the nursery and getting something to plant. She was also an avid supporter of wildlife conservation and humanitarian causes. She did her part to make the world a better place by recycling, donating anything usable to charity, and giving to organizations that offer opportunities for individuals and communities around the world to become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life.

Midge's unexpected diagnosis and death has left behind many broken hearts. She will be dearly missed by her son Jason Strandberg, daughter Adrienne Strandberg, daughter-in-law Brenda, grandsons Devin and Ethan, her many friends and relatives, and, of course, her dogs, Sophie and Tess.

In lieu of flowers, Midge would have appreciated a donation to a top rated charity listed on charitywatch.org or similar website, or you could plant a flower, shrub or tree in your garden in her honor.

Midge final wish will be granted with the scattering of her ashes off Point Loma, CA near Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery where her parents are laid to rest. A farewell party will be held at her home on Saturday, August 20, 11am - 3pm.
