~27 Dec 1912 page 7 column 1
Mrs. Martha Swarts passed away at her home in this city Christmas morning, after a five day's illness, during which time she had been suffering with peritonitis. Friday morning she was taken ill, and grew steadily weaker, until Tuesday evening, when the physicians could see that the only chance, if there was any of saving her life, was to operate. This was done, but she was too weak physically to stand it, and after twelve hours of unconsciousness, she passed away.
Mrs. Swarts was born on a farm near Princeton in 1872, and was married to John Swarts about twenty-three years ago. Two sons were born to this union, both of whom are living and making their homes in this city. The funeral will be held from the late residence this afternoon, the Rev. C. C. Carpenter officiating with burial in Oakland cemetery.
