Frank was born in State of Missouri on August 8, 1924, to Charles and Dorcas (Mayden) Mason. He graduated valedictorian of Stet High School in 1941. Frank was united in marriage on November 21, 1948 to Martha Deaton at her family home near Eaton, Ohio. She survives. Frank and Martha moved to their farm near Hager's Grove in 1952 from Stet, Missouri.

Frank is survived by his five children, Steve (Nora) Mason of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mark (Ann) Mason of Sullivan, MO, Larry (Laura) Mason of Shelbyville, MO, Linda Mason Dale of St. Joseph, MO, and Ann (Jeff) Mason Bach of Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania. Frank and Martha have 11 surviving grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Two brothers also survive, Harold (Doris) Mason of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Paul (Debra) Mason of Farmington, Pennsylvania.

Frank was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren and belonged to the Shelby County Church of the Brethren until its closing. He and Martha then attended the Clarence United Methodist Church. Frank served in many capacities in his local Brethren congregations, as well as, on the Missouri District Board. He was the Missouri representative to the National Standing Committee.

During World War II, Frank began his conscientious objector commitment in the Civilian Public Service. He entered in 1942. Frank continued in the CPS after the end of the war in order to be a seagoing cowboy. In 1946, he cared for horses on a voyage to assist in restoration of war-devastated Poland. The animals were shipped by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration. He and Weldon Beach returned to Poland through Heifer Project in 1993 to see the progress made because of this work.

Frank was a lifelong farmer who advocated for soil conservation and care of the land. He served two terms on the Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors, 1958-62 and 1974-86. He also was active in American Farmers United.

Other causes he and his family supported were Heifer Project, CROP (Christian Rural Overseas Project), and Festival of Sharing. His concerns for others was also shown by his donation over 25 units of blood through the American Red Cross.

One of his prized possessions was his restored 1953 Minneapolis-Moline that was the first tractor he bought farming in Shelby County. He enjoyed showing it at fairs and at the Old Thresher's Reunion. He was an advocate for peace and respect for all people. He was a quiet man but full of wit and love for family and friends.
