Nell was born in White Springs Florida to Bruce and Elsie Barwick. They moved around with saw mills from town to town. Her Mother died in 1945 in childbirth. She was the second of four children. Her Dad moved back to Lowndes County, Georgia and eventually married a widow Lena Ervin, who had three children and then they had a child together. Eight children! Nell was the first of these eight children to pass away. Oh what a big, busy household they had.She attended school in Valdosta, Ga. In high school she was the shortest and fastest basketball player on the Valdosta High School Lady Wildcat team. She graduated and worked with Southern Bell. She married Johnny Martin and he was in the military. They lived in many places including Alabama, Maryland, Florida and New Mexico. After retiring, they moved back home to Valdosta. They had a son and daughter by this time. Nell then worked for First State bank for many years. They built a home in Dasher, Georgia.
Nell attended Dasher church of Christ and had many dear friends that she spent much time with. She was dedicated to her Lord and did much to assist other people.
She was diagnosed with a brain tumor the first of July and had biopsy which said she had brain cancer, an inoperable aggressive type. She passed away on the day that she was supposed to start her radiation and chemo. She was granted her prayer for dignity and a speedy death by her Lord.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, her daughter, three grandchildren, four sisters and three brothers, a host of nieces and nephews.

Cancer is so limited...
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.
