Mr. Bascom E. "Nickey" Miller, 79, died Wednesday. Mr. Miller was the son of the late Estella Bridgers Miller and Edmund E. Miller He was the husband of Sylvia Mallard Miller.---- Today I was informed of the passing of Ill. Bascom E. (Nickey) Miller, 33° and Past Secretary of the Valley of New Bern. Brother Nickey was called from his toils in the quarry on Wednesday, August 3rd--thought it would be nice to prepare an electronic Memorial for posterity in behalf of this Brother; Saw one was already done so asked for a transfer so as to add bio info for future linkages with family... ect.....and here it is... Brother Miller was twice master of Zion Lodge #81 in Trenton and an Inspector General Honorary, 33° of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Brother Nickey was a devoted member of the fraternity, spending countless hours in its service

Mr. Bascom E. "Nickey" Miller, 79, passed away Wednesday morning, August 3, 2016, with his family by his side. Nickey was the son of the late Estella Bridgers Miller and Edmund E. Miller, and was a 1955 graduate of Jones Central High School. On December 23, 1956, he married his true love, Sylvia Mallard. He was an industrial electrician by trade and worked along the Southeastern United States for most of his career. Nickey decided to give up the traveling and became manager of the Craven-Onslow Electric Supply in Jacksonville. He later retired as Secretary of the Scottish Rite in New Bern...

Nickey was very active in his community where he was a faithful member of Pollocksville Baptist Church, serving on various boards and committees. He was an honored member of Zion Lodge # 81, AF&AM in Trenton, where he was twice Past Master; a 33 degree Inspector General of the Scottish Rite Bodies; Sudan Temple of New Bern; President of Camp Lejeune Chapter 329 National Sojourners and Tun Tavern Camp; Heroes of '76, both in Jacksonville; Pollocksville Town Commissioner; Past Chief of Pollocksville Fire Department; a member of the Pollocksville Rescue Squad; Rotary Club of New Bern; and the Jones County Arts Council. Nickey was survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia Mallard Miller; his daughters, Pamela Banks and Stella Downs, and their husbands T.J. Banks and Matthew Downs of Trenton; and his sister Bobbie M. Meadows, of Pollocksville. He also left behind his four beautiful grandchildren...
