Abbie Butler Hubbard (Marsh) Laurie was born 11 Nov 1840 in Hartford, CT to Timothy Bunce Marsh and Abbie Butler Hubbard. When Timothy died, Abbie's mother took in boarders to help ends meet. Abbie fell in love with one of these boarders, Charles Laurie, and the married in 1858. There marriage was only blessed with one child, a daughter, Annie. During the Civil War, while Charles was in the Army, Abbie worked as a seamstress. She would write to family members asking if in exchange for room and board for her and Annie she would do all their mending.
