Lucy Ophelia Hoskinson was the daughter of George Washington Hoskinson and Lucy Burlingame (Bosworth) Hoskinson.

She married first Thomas J. Hoover on June 24, 1864 in Alexandria, Missouri. Thomas Hoover was born Nov. 30, 1842 in Tippacanoe Co., Indiana. He was a Union Army soldier. Lucy and Thomas had a son, Thomas Hoover, born March 15, 1865 at West Point, Iowa. Thomas married Emma Viola Kenworthy.

She married second, George Mackey on Sept. 15, 1867 in (probably Alexandria) Clark County, Missouri. George was born in Virginia in 1818. He was a widower with 9 children, some of whom were as old as she was. (She was 23 and he was 49.)

George and Lucy Mackey had 7 children:
1) Mary Alice Mackey, b. Feb. 11, 1870 in Lee County, IA. and d. Jan. 26, 1960 in Hillsboro, Henry, IA. She married John Reuben King and then Arthur Olen. (She went by Alice). She is buried in Sharon Cemetery in Lee County Iowa. Memorial ID # is 169156327.
2) Charlotte Belle 'Lottie' Mackey, b. June 8, 1872 in Lee Co., IA. and d. Oct. 21, 1921 in Decatur Co., IA. She married Webie Vanderflute.
3) Tillness (or Matilda) S. 'Tillie' Mackey, b. Oct. 6, 1874 in Lee Co., IA. and d. Nov. 21, 1963 in Leon, Decatur, IA. She marr. Oscar Short.
4) Clarissa June Mackey, b. Jan. 4, 1876 in Lee Co., IA. and d. Nov. 14, 1956 in Englewood, Arapahoe, CO. She marr. Sherman Tanner.
5) Nellie Belle Mackey, b. Mar. 4, 1878 in Cedar, Lee Co., IA. and d. Feb. 27, 1939 in Creston, Union, IA. She marr. George T. Thompson.
6) George Edward 'Ed' Mackey, b. Sep. 29, 1881 (according to his WWII Draft Registration card), 1878 (according to his WWI Draft Registration card) and Sep. 29, 1880 according to the IA. Birth Index) in Cedar Twp., Lee, IA. He never married. He was a farmer and lived with his mother until her death in 1934; then lived with his sister, Alice. He died in 1947 (or 1936), in Hillsboro, Henry Co., IA.
7) Estella 'Stella' Weltha Mackey, b. Dec. 7, 1882/1883 (or Jul. 1884) in Monroe, Ringgold Co., IA. and d. 1953 in Des Moines, Polk, IA. She marr. George Harris.

They lived on a farm near West Point, Iowa until about 1875 when they moved to Mt. Hamel, Iowa where they had a hotel and boarded the men who were building the railroad at that time. They invested their profits in government land which proved very profitable.
On April 2, 1892, George Mackey bought a small farm in Ringgold County, Iowa near Kellerton, where they resided the remainder of their lives. After the death of George Mackey, Dec. 24, 1910, she and her son, Ed, lived alone. She died of a heart blockage on June 27, 1934 at Kellerton, Iowa.
