He was born in Preble County, Ohio; the son of Abraham & Emma (Guenther) Sayler. He married Alta M. Deem on September 18, 1917 in Preble County, Ohio, with whom he shares a headstone. To this union, two known children were born: Waldo D., and Willard Paul Saylor. They also raised a foster daughter, Idris Ketring. Upon the death of his first wife, Orla married Margaret (Roll) Davis in 1933. She passed away a week before he did, and is buried in Goshen Cemetery.
