Betty Ferguson Smith, 78, of Curtis James Road, died Monday, August 1, 2016, at a local hospital.

The family will greet friends from 10:00-11:00am, August 4, 2016, at Christ Episcopal Church in Macon. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am in the church Sanctuary with Rev. Joseph Shippen officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Gray.

Mrs. Smith was born March 3, 1938, in Thompkinsville, Kentucky and had lived in Jones County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late John Richard Ferguson and Laura A. Vibert Ferguson. Mrs. Smith was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where she served in the choir. She was also a member of The Order of the Daughters of the King and an active member of Cursillo. Mrs. Smith was a retired Secretary of Field Services for the Georgia Department of Labor and was preceded in death by her husband: Terry Lee Smith, Sr.; a son: Terry Lee Smith, Jr.; sisters: Elizabeth Copeland and Bessie Mae Baggerly and by a brother: Chester Van Gordon.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Keith A. Smith and Jon A. and Heather Smith; grandchildren: Terry L. Smith, III, Ryal Dean Smith and Matthew C. Smith; and by many nieces and nephews.

The family may be contacted at the residence of Jon and Heather Smith at 120 Gordon Drive, in Jones County.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 582 Walnut Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.

Bridges Funeral Home and Crematory in Gray has charge of arrangements.
