Memorial services for Mr. A. J. Ard will be held at 7 p.m., Thurs, July 14, 2016 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers, Alexandria with Rev Nathan Martin officiating.

The family requests that visitation be observed Thursday at Hixson Brothers, Alexandria from 4-7

Mr. Ard, 80, of Alexandria passed from this life, Mon, July 11, at Rapides Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He was a member of the National Bankers Association and attended School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University; he also attended Louisiana College in Theological Studies. In spite of several illnesses over his life span, he taught a valuable lesson to all who knew him. He taught that we should all be optimistic, have a sense of humor, enjoy your family while you can and live life to its fullest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernie and Ruby Graham Ard; brother, Paul Ard.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Lurline McIlwain Ard; sons, Jeff Ard and Mike Ard; daughter, Debbye Gilchrist and husband, Paul; brothers, Heyward Ard and wife, Elizabeth and Grady Ard and wife, Frances; sisters, Gayle Collier, Voncille Adams and Kaye Orman and husband, Brad; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a host of numerous nieces and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Gilchrist, Spencer Gilchrist, Carson Gilchrist, Preston Gilchrist, Michael Wayne Ard, II, Shelby Nation and Fredrick Lewis.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P. O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.

A special thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff of Rapides Regional Medical Center, LSU Family Practice, Riverside Rehabilitation Center and STAT Home Health for their care of our loved one.
