HENDERSON, Mike
On Saturday morning, July 23rd, 2016, Mike Henderson awoke to a beautiful sunrise, made a hot cup of coffee, took a deep breath and stepped into heaven. He leaves behind many beautiful, tangible expressions of who he was - three strong daughters, watercolors and oil paintings of the great State of Texas and so many friends that within 24 hours he had hundreds of messages of goodbye and love on Facebook. He lived the life of an artist and musician, seeing the world in beautiful colors and allowing those around him to share in his vision as well. Born on February 5th, 1946 to Ralph and Lorene Henderson of Cyclone in East Bell County, Mike grew up on a farm with his brothers Bill Henderson, Dave Henderson and Clifton Henderson and his sister Rene Henderson Green. A close knit family, music and love were the two forces that bound them all together. When Mike married Fay Yates in 1967, they spent hours with the Henderson family on the Cyclone Farm, in the green farmhouse that was always full of music and laughter. Mike's daughters Heidi, Audrey and Amy soon joined and along with their cousins, spent many Christmases listening to singing, guitars, pianos, mandolins, fiddles and harmonicas. Mike served in the Austin Fire Department for over 20 years, reaching the rank of Lieutenant. His artistic nature graced the many firehouses he served. He and all other firemen will always be the very definition of heroism to our family. Mike married two more times to Linda Sorell of Wichita, Kansas and to Janice Senkosky of Carbondale, Illinois. After retirement, he began to grow his art business in Bastrop, becoming active in the Fine Arts Guild and teaching classes to aspiring artists. He was known to everyone in Bastrop because he never met a human being that he didn't like or wouldn't talk to for hours. When he was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, he progressed forward with hope and a positive attitude, always answering the question, "Mike, how are you?" with his special brand of positivity and acceptance, "Can't complain." He leaves behind three daughters, Heidi Flynn, Audrey Wolf and Amy Miller, and three son-in-laws. They are all heartbroken, but also serene, knowing that their father lives on in the faces and hearts of their own children, Mike's five grandchildren, Kyle, Tori, Bogie, Thomas, and Trinity. Mike did what he always advised his daughters to do - "Always leave them smiling and wanting more." Daddy, we are smiling and there isn't a person who knows you that wouldn't give anything for one more day with you. We love you. Every time we see a brilliant sunrise or sunset, the people who remain here will know that you painted it from heaven to bring us into your vision of a world full of color. Join us in celebrating Mike's life at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 30th at Baxter's on Main, 919 Main Street, Bastrop, TX 78602.
