Buford Arnold "B.A." Coates, age 85, of Alvin passed away on November 6, 2006, in Alvin. B.A. was born on December 27, 1920, in Shallow Wells, Texas, to parents, Clarence Alexander and Gertrude Kitchens Coates. He and his wife, Mary Celia, moved in the Alvin area in 1947. He was a member in the United States Army and served in WWII. He owned and ran Coates Trucking Company from 1947 until 1971. He loved to hunt, fish and farm.

B.A. is survived by his wife, Mary Celia Coates of Alvin; children: Stella and Tommy Thomas of Koontz, Shirley Dehart of New Caney, Beverly and Tommy Dempsey of Cleveland, B.A. Coates Jr. of Freeport, Donald and Vicki Coates of Alvin, Ruby and Jimmy Craine of Kilgore, and Jimmy and Isabelle Coates of Rosharon; sisters: Catherine and Edward Powell of Rusk and Gladys and Roger Moak of Rusk; brother: Bobby Joe and Martha Coates of Rusk; grandchildren: Cassie Lynn (Craine) Santiago, Jared Allen Craine, Ruby Ciara Craine, Tamara Denise Craine, Dustin Jack Craine, Kelly Leanne Coates, Courtney Danielle Coates, Bryce Daniel Coates, Thomas Ray Dempsey, Matthew Martin Dempsey, Melissa (Dempsey) Byars, Kimberly DeAnn (Dehart) Murski, Linda Dehart Fiqueroa, Dwanna Kay (Dehart) Worthington, Johnny Dehart Jr., Ricky Thomas, Forest Quinton Thomas and Gwendolyn Louise (Thomas) Walters; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Friday, November 10, 2006, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Froberg Chapel. A Graveside Service was be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Marlow Cemetery in Cameron, Texas, with Rev. Daniel DeLong officiating.
