Born in Amsterdam on February 20, 1923, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred Coons Mahoney.
Catherine received her education in the Amsterdam school system. She was employed as a machine operator and seamstress at Hanover Manufacturing in Amsterdam until her retirement.
Catherine was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam. She was a former member of the St. John’s Bowling League, Girl Scout leader for Mohawk Pathways and enjoyed playing BINGO.
On January 10, 1943, she was married to Stanley J. Acela. Mr. Acela passed away on November 22, 2009. Catherine is survived by four daughters, Linda Shaffer of Amsterdam, NY; Judith Powers of Clifton Park, NY; Donna Kuiber (Chuck) of Amsterdam and Lee Ann Felker (David) of Clifton Park, NY, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Catherine was also predeceased by five brothers, Richard, Frank, William “Lenny”, James and Charles Mahoney and one sister, Mary Eddy.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
