Elsa Ruth Olsen Spencer
Ruth, better known as “Pete” or “Petey”, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 of natural causes.

Ruth was born June 16, 1919 in Wilson, Utah to Norman Christian and Lydia Louisa Olsen.

She graduated from Weber High School and Weber High Seminary in May of 1936. She spent all of her younger years helping on the family farm where she learned the value of hard work.

On October 14, 1937, Ruth married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Ira Spencer. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. They were happily married for 64 years.

Ruth was very active in the LDS Church and in the community. She was involved in the Young Women’s Mutual Presidency, Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society. She was President of the Wilson Elementary PTA, President of the Junior Old Timers, and President of the Utah Lady’s Golf Association.

She went to work at Swift and Company to earn enough money to buy a washing machine and ended up working until she retired many years later form the Weber County School District. She worked in the Lunch Program Unit there and was the manager for 15 years prior to retirement. After retirement, she and her husband spent their winters in St. George golfing and enjoying time with their friends.

Her sons and spouses are Steven R. (Barbara), N. Douglas (Elaine), Curtis S. (Joanna), and Jeffery D, (Michelle). She has 25 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren and three Great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a great-granddaughter, Erica Spencer, also two daughters-in-law, Shirley Spencer and Glenda Spencer.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015 at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends and family may attend a viewing prior to the graveside from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
