Jessica Alice Hanrahan, 88, died Monday morning, November 20, 2006 at Westwing Place, DeWitt. She was born March 26, 1918 to Lee and Dorothea (Wulf) Barber in Welton, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Welton High School. Jessica married Joseph Kenneth Hanrahan April 11, 1942 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt. He died June 8, 1951. Jessica had worked at Barnes Foodland retiring in 1987 after 25 years of employment. She dearly cherished the years she lived with her sister, Ioma A. Steward in DeWitt. Her first love was her family, grandchildren and great grandson. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, her flowers and playing cards especially 500. Jessica was an avid Hawkeye basketball fan. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Hanrahan, DeWitt; grandchildren, Mark and Melinda Hanrahan, Urbandale, Iowa and Amy Hanrahan, West Des Moines, Iowa; great grandson, Dylan Hanrahan, Urbandale, Iowa; special niece and nephew, Dianne Ehrler and Larry Steward; her brother, Lloyd Barber, Westwing Place, DeWitt and sister-in-law, Babe (Clarence) Barber. Jessica was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Clarence, Elmer and Bob Barber and sisters, Mildred Paulsen and Ioma A. Steward. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2006. Vigil service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Funeral Liturgy 10:30 a.m. Friday November 24, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt. Memorials may be left to St. Joseph's building fund or Clinton County Master Gardener program at the fairgrounds. Pallbearers will be Larry Steward, Dennis Sheridan, Dave Sheridan, Rick Ehrler, Eric Ehrler, Mike Hofer and Tim Welch.
