Bowers was a member of Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and in various other capacities. He and his wife helped design, develop and maintain a Prayer Garden at Abbotts Creek Church for many years. Mr. Bowers served his country in the Army Air Corp during WWII as an Aerial Engineer. During his working career he owned and operated DJ’s Home Supply.
Wilbur and his wife of 70 years, Marie Lawing Bowers were married on June 22, 1946.
Also surviving are four children: Jerry Bowers (Jill-Marie), Janice Bowers Cooper, David Bowers (Darenda), James Bowers (Dee), seven grandchildren and one great-grandson, many nieces and nephews, all of whom he was so proud of and loved dearly.
Wilbur had 1 sister: Marie Bowers Waters, and 3 brothers, Dalton Bowers, Charles Bowers, and Ray (RC) Bowers, all whom preceded him in death. The funeral will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 24th at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church located at 2817 Abbotts Creek Church Road in High Point, NC with Rev. Roy Cantrell and Rev. Dr. Joe Coltrane officiating. The Military Burial Honor Guard will perform graveside burial rites. Visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
