Religious Leader. Known also as Blo-bzang Gpal-lden Ye-shes in Tibetan, and as Palden Yeshe or Palden Yeshi in English. A native of Tibet, he was the 6th Panchen Lama of Tibet. The Panchen Lama is the second highest ranking lama after the Dalai Lama in the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. He was known as a distinguished writer, and world traveller. He was a friend of diplomat George Bogle, and was also known for his gift giving especially to the Governor of India. Yeshe died of smallpox in Beijing, China.
