Pauline Leaverton, 81, longtime Sunnyside resident, passed away, Monday, July 18, 2016, in Kennewick.

She was born in Dodd City, Arkansas, Sept. 19, 1934, to Van Cunningham and Josephine (Goatley) Cunningham.

Pauline moved with her family to the Lower Yakima Valley where they made their home in the Outlook, area.

She married Gene Leaverton on July 29, 1959. Together they ran Sunnyside Appliance Service Center on Lincoln Ave in Sunnyside for almost 40 years. Pauline would run the “shop”, taking phone calls and helping walk-in customers, while Gene would provide service calls to many homes in the Lower Valley. After retiring from appliance repair, she and Gene moved to Yakima, in 2002. They were residents of Orchard Park Retirement Center for five years until health needs required they move to the Tri-Cities area last fall, to an Adult Foster Care Home. Pauline continued to reside there after Gene’s death last Nov., 2015.

Pauline loved her family, grandkids and great-grandkids. She enjoyed fishing, huckleberry picking, baking and canning. She and Gene loved boating in the San Juan Islands and Canada, salmon fishing and crabbing. Many summers were spent at Rimrock Lake, fishing for “silvers”.

Both she and Gene were members of the Yakima Valley Boat Club, until they sold the boat and bought a motorhome and enjoyed camping and visiting family members.

Pauline and Gene attended Granger Assembly of God Neighborhood Church, Sunnyside, Cornerstone Assembly, Sunnyside and Wapato Assembly of God over the past years. They faithfully attended and helped out with special events, floral decorations and any special dinners whenever volunteer and support may have been needed.

Pauline enjoyed gardening and her, Martha Washington rose bushes in the back yard, at their long time home in Sunnyside.

She loved to cook and served the best cup of coffee in town to many friends and family that would stop by the house daily. If you left Pauline’s house hungry, it was your own fault.

Pauline is survived by two sons, Michael R. (Barbara) Leaverton of Pasco and Norman (Bev) Leaverton of Yakima; two daughters, Connie (Jann) Bailey of Yakima and Bonnie (David) Myhill of Roseburg, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Evelyn Hobson of Sumas and Vi Carter of Custer; one brother, Doyle Cunningham of Custer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; father, Van Cunningham; mother, Josephine Cunningham; sisters, Anna Cunningham and Mazie (Cunningham) Christoffer; and brothers, LG Goatley and Ray Cunningham.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, July 22, at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
