Roy Clifton Alford, age 91, of Brownwood passed away Monday, July 4, 2016, at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Memorial Service with Military Honors for Roy will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.

Roy was born on December 24, 1924, to E.C. & Viola (Sawyer) Alford in Brownwood, Texas.

He graduated from Brownwood High School in 1942. After high school, Roy joined the Army and then the Air Force at a later re-enlistment. While in the Army, he served in the Philippines and was an amphibious tractor driver with the 672nd Amphibian Tractor Battalion in the Los Banos raid, which successfully rescued over 2000 American citizens from a Japanese internment camp.

Upon his return from that tour of duty, he married Helen Breazeale and they had two children, Maricia and Randy; their marriage lasted 33 years. They remained in contact and would even join for family celebrations. Roy married Doris Hill Pierce and they were married for 22 years until her passing in 2001. Her 3 children, along with their families, became part of his life.

Roy worked in the oil fields in West Texas while his two kids were growing up. He then opened his own antique car restoration business. He was very successful because people from all over the United States brought him their vintage cars to have him restore them to their original condition. He spent many years traveling to antique car shows in his vintage cars and he belonged to several Antique Automobile Clubs.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Maricia Dowden and husband Darrell Hearne; her children, Lesli Ford, Robyn Ford, Jamie Scott; son, Randy Alford and wife Casey; his children, Justin Alford, Josh Alford and wife Cheyenne, Cody Alford and wife Crystal, Kassi Bradford and husband Kenny; children through marriage with Doris, Ricky Pierce and wife Ruth, Irlene Pierce Lawler and Elsie "Pill" Pierce Peck and husband James; along with 8 other grandchildren; a total of 29 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; mother of his two children, Helen Breazeale Alford Stalcup; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Hollis Alford, E.C. Alford II, and Douglas Alford; his second wife, Doris and her daughter, Irlene.
