Mrs. Henderson worked as a nursing assistant for Dr. B.H. Minchew and Dr. B.E. Collins. She owned and operated Henderson's Grocery and Grandma's Kitchen, and retired in 1972 as head nutritionist at Emerson Park Elementary School.
Mrs. Henderson was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was also a member of the Gideon Auxiliary, and the Womens Missionary Union. Mrs. Henderson and her husband were honorary lifetime members of the Georgia Parent Teachers Association.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter J. Henderson whom she married, December 17, 1936 in Charlton County. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Futch, Pearl Varnadore, Naomi Eason and a brother, W.E. Ward.
Mrs. Henderson is survived by her children, Lynda Shave and her husband Thomas J. Shave, IV of Lake Park, Georgia, Larry Henderson and his wife Patti Price Henderson of Valdosta, Georgia, Lydia Sparger and her husband Kevin W. Sparger of Jonesboro, Georgia, her grandchildren, Jay Spence of Lake Park, Georgia, Tara Blocker of Dothan, Alabama, Peter Henderson of Hoboken, Billy Henderson of Macon, Georgia, David Henderson of Lynchburg, Virginia, Robbie Henderson, Tiffany Henderson both of Douglas, Chrystal Henderson of Brunswick, Todd Sparger of Marietta, Georgia, Matt Sparger of Kennesaw, Georgia, Kevin Sparger, Jr., of Canton, Georgia, eight great grandchildren, a brother J.E. Head of Fernandina Beach, Florida, a sister, Helen Jagel of St. Mary's, Georgia and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held 11 am, Tuesday at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Monday at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. The Deacons of Second Baptist Church have been requested to serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the church by 10:30 am, Tuesday.
