Andrew Appenzeller 85 for nearly forty years a resident of Perry and vicinity and widely known here, died at his home in Sterling, Illinois, this morning at 1 a.m. according to word received here by relatives. The body will be returned to Perry for final rites Saturday at 1 o'clock at the Workman Funeral home with burial at Violet Hill cemetery.

Surviving home are his wife three sons and two daughters John H Appenzeller, Sterling. Mrs. Anna M Schnoor, Frank and William Appenzeller and Mrs Ida Lutze, all of Perry. Two brothers and three sisters also survive William and John Appenzeller, Mrs Emma Clark and Mrs Dora Gregorios all of Sterling, MRs. Mary Kirgris, Perry.

Mr Appenzeller was born in Rohtenberg, Germany January 2, 1854 and came to this country with his parents in 1868. The family settled in Sterling where he resided until 1876 when he moved to Perry. He married Elizabeth Bristle who preceded him in death November 21, 1898.

In 1910 Mr. Appenzeller with his daughter Mrs. Schnoor, enjoyed a long trip to the old country touring various places of interest in Europe and visiting his birthplace. Following his removal to Sterling in 1915 he married Barbara Goeken February 16, 1915 and they continued to make their home in that city. They were visitors in Perry during October of this year.

While in this vicinity Mr Appenzeller served in several public offices, including supervisors, school trustee and township officer. When he returned to Sterling he was elected to public office but refused to serve. His memory went back to the time when the city of Sterling was no more than a rolling prairie.

He was a member of the Lutheran church and had also been a member of the Perry Daily Chief Three-Quarter Century club. Numerous more distant relatives than those of his immediate family mentioned remain in his vicinity as do hundreds of friends.
