Obituary for Ann Bignall Jones

Ann Bignall Jones, 69, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 14 ,2016 of complications of a brain tumor.

Miss Jones was born on June 21, 1947 in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Grace Wagner and Bignall Speed Jones. She spent her entire life in Warrenton, surrounded by family and friends. Her many trips with her family were chronicled in her father’s and brother’s columns for The Warren Record, and in later years her favorite memories were of ocean cruises taken with her brother. Her greatest joy was being in the company of horses, and she was a collector of note of horse memorabilia.

For several years, Miss Jones assisted her family at The Warren Record. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, the Cherry Hill Historical Foundation, Inc., and Preservation Warrenton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, Howard F. Jones, III. She is survived by her sister, Mary Brodie Jones Raiford, brother-in-law W. Patrick Raiford, Jr., nephew Patrick Raiford, niece Elizabeth Gates and husband Mark Gates and their daughter Sarah Gates.

Funeral services conducted by the Reverend Henry Presler will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Warrenton on Sunday, July 17 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors at the home at 311 Graham Street from 3 until 5 PM on Saturday, July 16th.
