Lola C. Elam, age 88, of Carthage, Mo., passed away early Friday, November 25, 2016, at Mercy Hospital, in Joplin, following an illness.

Lola was born on July 18, 1928, in Pea Ridge, Ark., the daughter of William and Thelma (Ricketts) Berry. She has been an area resident since childhood.

Lola was an entrepreneur, accountant, and counselor and actively volunteered for several organizations. Lola was most recently a member of Grace Point Assembly of God, in Carthage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Harry Staples, Richard Diggs, and Bill Elam; and by her brother, Richard Berry.

Survivors include two sons, David Diggs, of Washington D.C., Richard Staples, of Carthage; two daughters, Dian Wicklund, of Carthage, Susan Zimmerman, of Oronogo; one sister, Martha Cate, of Ft. Smith; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, with two on the way; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, November 28, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Pastor Danny Graves, of Richland, will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery on Locust Road (D highway), east of Alba. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.
The family has requested donations be made to Beyond Borders.
