Juanita Devore, 78, longtime Oakwood hairdresser & owner of the Hairport Salon & Tanning, passed away at 4am, Saturday, July 16, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Oakwood.

She was born February 17, 1938, in Danville, IL to Walter & Minnie Jinkins Foster. Juanita married Thomas M. Devore, June 21, 1958, in Danville, IL, he passed away January 1, 2014. Survivors include: 1 son, Tim (Tracy) Devore of Indianapolis, IN; 1 daughter, Cheryl (Carla Smith) Girton of Oakwood, IL; 2 brothers, Jerome (Gail) Boen of California and Gary Boen of Texas; 2 sisters, Winnie Pounds of Brownstown, IN and Linda Reese of Texas; 1 nephew, Charles Grubb; 1 granddaughter, Piper Jones, and her loving Granddog, Tazzy. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters.

Juanita enjoyed traveling, casinos, watching the Lifetime Channel, Elvis Presley, and loved to laugh. She operated her salon in Oakwood for 35 years. People didn’t just come to get a haircut or to tan. They came for the comfort they felt in Mom’s presence. She was the ear they needed, and the hug they received whenever they came in. Dad must have finished the stairway, so climb those steps Mom and enjoy the view.
