John Oliver "Big John" Scotten, born September 3, 1919 in Wabash, Indiana, was a long-time resident of Lake Park, Florida. John passed away on May 3, 1994 in West Palm Beach, Florida. He had attended Palm Beach County Schools, played football with the Wild Cats, and graduated from Palm Beach High School (CO' 1941). During World War II, John served his country as a member of the 5th Army Air Corps in the South Pacific, Australia, and New Guinea. He later worked for and retired from (1978) the Port of Palm Beach. John was a member and Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9610 in Lake Park. He was a member of the North Palm Beach Elks for 35 years and the Jupiter Elks for one year.

Mr. Scotten was preceded in death by his step-mother, Grace Helen (Crosby) Scotten and one sister, Dorothy (Scotten) Merchant.

Mr. Scotten was survived by his wife, Helen (Westwood) Scotten; his father, Pearlman J. Scotten; two sons, John Paul Scotten and Joseph Floyd Scotten; four daughters, Sara (Scotten) Warren, Grace (Scotten) Duffy, Dolores (Scotten) Lupo, and Darlene Scotten; fifteen grandchildren; three sisters, Katheryn (Scotten) Thomas, Joann (Scotten) Hatfield, and Cassie Mae (Scotten) Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Funeral services were conducted at the Thomas L. Price Funeral Home, on May 7, 1994, and were presided by Reverend Father Christopher Kelly, Rector of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, and V.F.W. post 9610. Interment followed in Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, West Palm Beach.
