CHAPEL HILL – Michael Gerard Bilhorn, 60, of Chapel Hill died Thursday, December 8, 2011. Michael was born January 28, 1951 to the late Donald Carl Bilhorn and Esther Pebler Bilhorn.
He was born in Fall River, Massachusetts. He was a prior resident of Port Jefferson, New York; Boulder, Colorado; Houston, Texas; Poughkeepsie, New York; and Ashville, North Carolina before settling in Chapel Hill.
He received his B.S. in political science from SUNY Oneonta and a M.A. in Library Science from CW Post. He then received a degree from Durham Tech in Information Technology. He was employed for 13 years by Orange County as a PC specialist.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, especially doing outdoor activities. He loved to camp, hike, and kayak. He spent many hours outdoors in his yard and garden. He loved to work with his hands making jewelry and woodworking. Michael was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about history. He loved to play his guitar.
Michael is survived by his wife of 15 years, Ans Bilhorn; children, Benjamin Bilhorn and Emma Bilhorn of Chapel Hill; sisters, Wynne Breuring and husband, Eugene of Battle Creek, Michigan; Laura Perlstein and husband, Roger of Valparaiso, Indiana; very close friends, Berry Cooper, Dave and Jan Hill.
Funeral services will be held 6:00 PM Sunday, December 11, 2011 in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main Street, Durham, NC 27701. Chaplin Tom Hehenberger will officiate.
A reception will follow after the service at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Sea Turtle Conservancy, 4424 NW 13th St. Suite B-11, Gainesville, Florida 32609
The Bilhorn family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
