James Dwight DeViney, age 86, of Olin Village Assisted Living and formerly of Hiddenite, N.C., died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C.
He was born December 9, 1920, in Chase City Virginia, the son of the late Romey Ray DeViney and Lela Mae Panther DeViney.
He served in the US Navy during World War II. He had worked as a machinist and was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorsville, N.C. and the community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward DeViney and Joseph Clayton DeViney, and a daughter, Barbara Ann Gregory.
Survivors include one daughter, Rosa Leigh DeViney Bell and husband Ronald of Fayetteville, N.C.; brother, Arnold Lee DeViney and wife Dorothy of Statesville, N.C.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were conducted Monday, April 30, 2007, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Dagenhart officiating. Burial followed in The Taylorsville City Cemetery with military rites provided by V.F.W. Post 10,000 of Hiddenite, N.C. and V.F.W. Post 5466 of Taylorsville, N.C.
