Lula Jean Poland Kunkel, 86, of Odessa, passed away July 1, 2016 in Odessa Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 9, 2016 in the Pyles Cemetery with Nick and Michelle Hutchison officiating. Pallbearers will be Ray Kunkel, Luke Kunkel, Luther Ward, Brad Rogers, Leigh Foreman and Fred Corson. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 8:00 PM Friday at the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Family lunch will be at The Salvation Army after the service.
She was born on June 2, 1930 in Beinville, LA a daughter of Leon and Essie Poland. She married Alden Loyd Kunkel on February 24, 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son David Kunkel, daughter Mary Magnuson, grandson Charlie Paul Green, brothers W.C. and James Poland, sisters Lenora DeLotte, Rea Hay and Jessie Clifton.
She is survived by her sons Clem Kunkel and wife Sharon of Carlsbad, N.M., Ray Kunkel and wife Sharon of Cleburne, TX. and daughter Rhonda Green and husband Fred of Odessa, Tx.; grandchildren Rhoda Magnuson Foreman and Carol Magnuson of Paris, Ray Kunkel of Odessa, Christi Ward of Hillsboro, Kelly Kunkel and Luke Kunkel of Carlsbad, NM, Kenny Lowe and Amber Brock of Odessa; great-grandchildren Katie Wisham and Casey Harper of Paris, Alexis Ward, Ashley Ward and Alyssa Ward of Hillsboro, Jakeub Helms-Kunkel of Odessa, Paige Magby, Kylee Magby and Kellen Kunkel of Carlsbad, NM; brothers Nick Poland and wife Clara of West Monroe, LA and Jerry Poland and late wife Dean of Bienville, LA and sisters Mary Wiggins of Prineton, LA, Sue Billingsley of Bastrop, TX and Donna Pyron and husband Rick of Odessa.
